Offshore Wind Power
The University of Delaware's College of Marine Studies has a working group dedicated to offshore wind power. Visit their homepage at http://www.ocean.udel.edu/windpower/
It is estimated that there is 72 TW of worldwide land and near-shore wind resource. This is seven times the world's electricity demand and five times the world energy demand. Here are some nice wind power maps from the same site: http://www.ocean.udel.edu/windpower/ResourceMap/index-world.html
Sandia Wind Energy
Researchers have Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico have long been working with wind as a source of power.
Here is an article from September 2003 discussing Sandia's attempt to make lighter, stiffer turbine blades that generate more power in less windy locations. http://www.sandia.gov/LabNews/LN09-19-03/key09-19-03_stories.html#wind
GE Wind Energy
General Electric is the leading provider of wind turbines.
They offer three versions:
1.5 MW Wind Turbine
2.X MW Wind Turbine
3.6 MW Wind Turbine

Wind-turbine construction is on the rise as U.S. power producers plan to spend over $4 billion this year to build 3,000 megawatts of wind-turbine generators. This is according to the American Wind Energy Association.
The extension of federal renewable-energy tax credits through 2008 is helping to make wind the second-fastest-growing power source in the United States, after natural-gas fired power plants.

CNBC just did a report on wind power, sending Jane Wells to Palm Springs. They mentioned PPM Energy, a division of the Scottish Power Company, that specializes in building windfarms.
