Ultraluxury

The Ultraluxury Network was a project I developed during my senior year at USC. It was an attempt to manage the affiliate relationships I had established. I had noticed that not to many high-end retailers offered affiliate programs.

The goal of the spreadsheet modeling was to create a mix of products and merchants that would maximize revenue with the minimum number of transactions. It became apparent that most affiliate programs offered roughly 5-10% commission on their products.

With this in mind, we realized we wanted to sell the most expensive products we could find, items that we considered ultraluxury, because this would make it most worth our while. We were not planning on having a large volume of transactions, and instead wanted to promote only a few products that would bring in decent revenue.

For this reason we shied away from merchants selling items such as stationery or other low price consumer goods, and looked for merchants that sold high priced goods and also offered affiliate programs.

At the time of that research, I found three product areas that fit the requirements pretty well.

In the beginning, the Ultraluxury Network consisted of three sites: Chronikos, a fine watch locator service; Baller Diamonds, a site that mainly marketed large-carat loose diamonds; and Random Perfection, a high-end consumer electronics reviewer. Random Perfection has sinced switched to Gadgetronic.
