Videonomics

10/15/2005

Earlier this week Apple announced the arrival of their video ipod. All I have to say is, "What took so long?!" Many of my friends are already familiar with the 80 GB Archos media player that I've had since Christmas 2004. And in my opinion it blows Apple's new product out of the water. The only thing Apple really has going for it is a great distribution deal with Disney (with many more companies sure to follow) and the market share to ensure that the video ipod will be in every ipod fan's hands when they decide to upgrade (which they almost certainly will).

As a propheciographer, yes, I think that Apple's Video Ipod will take over the world, but I don't recommend it yet. The screen is only 2.5 inches! Also, it only comes in 30 and 60 GB sizes. If you want my advice, go with the new 100 GB Archos (as shown on my Gadgetronic page. It is less than an inch thick and has a monster 7" screen. True you won't be able to download the latest episode of Desperate Housewives off iTunes, but since it doubles as a DVR, you can just record it live while you watch it.
