A paper published in 2004 by the Max-Planck-Research Group for Colloids and Surfaces at the Institute of Ceramics, Glass and Construction Materials at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg explains how nanometer sized bubbles can cause the rupture of aqueous wetting films.
